i saw a man die today
he lay motionless on the dry earth of the construction site that will someday become a wallmart
i wanted to cry and i wanted to look away but i couldn’t.
i couldn’t move and i couldn’t turn away. my eyes just locked on his motionless body that looked as normal as yours or mine, except that he was dying and i wasn’t.
i couldn’t figure out what happened to him, what powerful force sucked the life from his body.
the firetrucks came, the paramedics came, the police came.
some of the other workers paced anxiously, perhaps awaiting some kind of reassurance that this man would breathe again, that his heart would remember to start beating again…
the firefighter pumped rhythmically, relentlessly trying with his hands to push the fleeting bit of life back into the man.
more minutes passed. my eyes still locked unmoving on the scene in front of me. like a moviegoer watching, only this time the intense drama was harshly real and no credits would roll. and i couldn’t help but ache deep inside of myself for the family whose husband and father wouldn’t be coming home for dinner. if he had only stayed home today the world around him wouldn’t have come crashing down crushing the life out of him.
a reminder not to take life for granted. a reminder to live each day to the fullest. a reminder to take nothing for granted. a reminder that pain and death aren’t just created for our entertainment, that they are more real than anything and can change everything in an moment…
its a reality check. for me the check cost nothing, for others, it cost everything… i wont forget the images of his unresponsive body and the way the ambulances drove slowly out of sight. i’ll remember this reminder that life is precious… i wont forget that
i saw a man die today
word on the street has it people are saying i never post…
i can neither confirm of deny that at this time…
depending upon your personal definition of never, you might be right…
eg.
1. never: not in the last month
2. never: not in the last 5 minutes (courtney)
3. never: Not ever; on no occasion; at no time (american heritage dictionary)
if your definition is #3 like mine, i have most certainly updated more frequently than never… if you agree with #2, you definately like xanga more than me… and i guess #1 could be a good goal… i think i could think of something to put up here once a month that would suit my intentions to not post anything here that i would rather say in a two way conversation with a good friend…
yeah… consider this a post, i hope you give me an eprop
WOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!! I graduated!!! I am no longer subject to classes and homework!!! I’m sure i don’t have to explain to anyone why this is so exciting! Check me out in “The Big House”… I managed to find some graduating Greenies to walk with at commencement, so that was really cool… I can’t help but be close to these people that i’ve spent at least 6 hours a week with for my last 4 years of school… I’m gonna miss singing with them, i’ll be back for concerts though…
I’m all moved out of my place in Ann Arbor now too, it’s been great living at the New Life Building, and i’ll miss seeing my friends there, but it is definately nice to be home in Kalamazoo again to hang out with my buddy pete. We’re going disc golfing today after his first day of his spring class is over!!! i hope we go to steak and shake for lunch… i can almost taste a frisco melt and beef soup…
Ahhh yes my friends, I just finished my second to last final ever!!! And before that I picked up four tickets to my graduation commencement ceremony, which, btw IS in THE BIG HOUSE!!! Its on saturday, so im hoping the weather is nice and warm! yesterday snowed, today it rained… hopefully all this precipitation wears itself out! oh yeah – when i picked up the tickets for graduation, i only needed two, but we could get 4, so, i did… so if you want to come you can… i told my fam they should go to jen’s ceremony the same day at Cedarville (in ohio)… alison and her sister dana are coming to mine though, so thats cool. and afterwards a party at alison’s house
AND BEST WISHES AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY LITTLE SISTER KIMMY!!!
i love you, finish strong this semester!
I have once again given in to the internet fad commonly known as blogging. Check out my newly added xanga page. enjoy
hopefully i will consistently enought add meaningful or interesting content…
Yeah, so i just realized most of my good friends have these crazy little xanga sites, and even though they never really talk about the things that go on in their lives, they talk about them here… I suppose that probably means i must be a bad listener… i’ll have to work on that…
In other news, today was my LAST DAY OF CLASSES, EVER!!! I’m very excited to be graduating college the end of next week!!!
